Parque do Carmo (Olavo Egydio Setubal)

FreeLeashed only

At roughly 1.5 million sq m this is Sao Paulo's second-largest park, an old estate on the east side with lakes, eucalyptus stands and the cherry grove that hosts the annual Festa das Cerejeiras. Walking tracks and cycle paths run through the wooded sections.

Why it made the list

The municipal regulation names dogs as permitted visitors, and the scale means long shaded walks well away from the weekend crowds.

Good to know before you go

Portaria SVMA 29/2024, the park's own use regulation, admits domestic dogs and cats provided they are on a collar and lead matched to their size, with muzzles required for pit bull, staffordshire, rottweiler and mastiff types; cats must travel in carriers and animals may not use human drinking fountains. Gates close at 20:00, extended to 22:00 in summer. Entry is free. Confidence: high.

Practical notes

  • Go in July or August for the cherry blossom, but come at opening – the festival weekends are packed.
  • It is a 15-20 minute walk from Correia de Mello or Corinthians-Itaquera station; carry water for the dog.
