Ruy Ohtake's crescent-shaped concrete landmark a block from Ibirapuera, with round porthole windows, two pools and the Skye rooftop restaurant looking over the Jardins. It has been the city's design hotel since 2002.
Why it made the list
The hotel advertises a pet welcome with its own pet menu and a PET KIT at check-in, which is more than most five-stars in the city bother to publish.
Good to know before you go
The hotel's own site says it is ready to welcome four-legged guests with an exclusive pet menu and a PET KIT, but it publishes no fee, weight limit or room restrictions, and the size limit quoted by third-party booking sites is unconfirmed. Ring reservations to book a pet room and confirm charges. Source: hotelunique.com (Portuguese and English homepages). Confidence: medium.
Practical notes
Ask specifically about the pet menu and PET KIT when booking – they are not automatic for every rate.
Skye, the rooftop bar, is a separate venue; do not assume the dog comes up with you.

Sao Paulo's 124-hectare flagship park, laid out in 1954 around Niemeyer's pavilions, a lake and the marquise. Paths loop the water and the Praca da Paz lawns, with museums, a running track and the city's most famous dog run tucked between gates 6 and 7.
A 1930s French-style mansion on Avenida Paulista, now a free house-museum run by the state culture secretariat, with a rose garden, a cafe and a shaded yard behind the front fence. Exhibitions of literature and landscape architecture fill the rooms.
The garden restaurant of Palacio Tangara, an Oetker Collection hotel on the edge of Parque Burle Marx, with tables on a lawn terrace under the trees, live music through the day and a Mediterranean menu of pizzas, feijoada and brunch.
