Ibirapuera Park
Free·Leashed only
Sao Paulo's 124-hectare flagship park, laid out in 1954 around Niemeyer's pavilions, a lake and the marquise. Paths loop the water and the Praca da Paz lawns, with museums, a running track and the city's most famous dog run tucked between gates 6 and 7.
Why it made the list
Dogs are allowed by the park's own regulation and there is an informal fenced dog run where the lead comes off, all in the middle of the city.
Good to know before you go
The SVMA park page confirms daily 05:00-24:00 opening and states plainly that the cachorrodromo is informal rather than an official facility. Portaria SVMA 48/2018, the park's regulation, requires a collar and short lead for every dog, a muzzle for pit bull, rottweiler, mastiff and staffordshire types, and bans dogs from human drinking fountains. Entry is free and no booking is needed. Confidence: high.
Practical notes
Use gate 6 or 7 for the dog run; gate 6 shuts at 22:00 while gate 10 runs to midnight.
Avoid Sunday afternoons – a busy weekend brings around 300,000 people and a crowded dog run.
