Little Sugar Creek Greenway
Free·Leashed only
A long paved linear trail along Little Sugar Creek connecting multiple Charlotte neighborhoods and parks, managed by Mecklenburg County. The greenway passes public art, creek views, and shaded corridor sections, with connections at Thompson Park and Cordelia Park. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the county greenway system.
Why it made the list
Miles of flat, shaded paved trail give leashed dogs a proper long walk minutes from Uptown, with creek access points for a paw rinse on hot days.
Good to know before you go
Mecklenburg County requires dogs to be leashed (no longer than 6 feet) on greenways and in parks except inside designated off-leash dog parks, and owners must pick up waste. Posted greenway hours were not published on the page reviewed.
Practical notes
Start at the Midwood Park or Polk Historic Site access points for the shadiest stretches.
The creek is tempting on hot days, but keep dogs leashed and out of the water.

A neighborhood brewery opened in 2021 inside a refurbished former bank building in East Charlotte, pouring 10-12 house-made beers plus seltzer, cider, and wine. The brewery describes its large patio and outdoor space as welcoming to its notably family- and dog-friendly clientele, and hosts Dogtoberfest-style dog events.
