Pet-friendly stays · Marumbi (East Coast)
Ycona Luxury Resort
$$$ · Upscale·Leashed only
A family-owned five-star eco-resort of 40 villas spread through 60,000 sq m of forest and spice garden, fronting a private 500 m bay just north of Marumbi on the east coast. Four restaurants, a spa and an over-water gym sit behind the beach.
Why it made the list
One of the very few Zanzibar resorts that publishes an actual pet policy, complete with a dedicated pet area and the Tanzanian import and rabies rules.
Good to know before you go
The resort's own pet page accepts up to two pets of 8 kg or less in selected room categories at USD 35 per night, keeps them leashed anywhere on the property and bars them from restaurants, pool and wellness areas. It also spells out the paperwork: an import permit from the Ministry of Water, Livestock and Veterinary Services plus health and vaccination certificates, with rabies given at least one month and no more than three years before entry to Tanzania. Large dogs are not accepted, and the room category has to be confirmed with reservations.
Practical notes
Start the Tanzanian import permit weeks ahead – it is a government process, not a hotel form.
Ask reservations to confirm a pet-approved villa in writing before you pay a deposit.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Last checked: against the source on . Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
Stone Town's seafront park between the Old Fort and the House of Wonders, restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. By day it is palms, benches, paving and harbour views; after sunset the lawns become the island's best-known street-food market.
A flat paved promenade along the rebuilt seawall, running from Forodhani past the dhow harbour and ferry terminal to Shangani. It is where Stone Town comes out to walk, fish and watch the sun drop into the Indian Ocean.
The main restaurant of Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa, a villa property behind the dunes at Paje, with a mother-of-pearl chandelier over the lounge and a menu built on reef fish and the hotel's own vegetable garden.
