Stone Town Seafront Walk (Forodhani to Shangani)
Free·Leashed only
A flat paved promenade along the rebuilt seawall, running from Forodhani past the dhow harbour and ferry terminal to Shangani. It is where Stone Town comes out to walk, fish and watch the sun drop into the Indian Ocean.
Why it made the list
A continuous, car-free, shaded-in-places line along the water makes it the simplest leashed walk in the old town, no planning required.
Good to know before you go
Zanzibar publishes no beach or promenade dog bylaw that I could verify; in practice a leashed dog here is tolerated rather than welcomed, and dogs are uncommon. Keep tight near the ferry port and the fish landings, where porters and crowds move fast. The source is the Aga Khan Development Network release on the Stone Town seafront and seawall works, which describes the promenade but not any pet policy.
Practical notes
Go at first light, when the promenade is empty and the coral stone is still cool.
Carry water – there are no dog bowls anywhere along the seawall.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Last checked: against the source on . Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
Stone Town's seafront park between the Old Fort and the House of Wonders, restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. By day it is palms, benches, paving and harbour views; after sunset the lawns become the island's best-known street-food market.
A family-owned five-star eco-resort of 40 villas spread through 60,000 sq m of forest and spice garden, fronting a private 500 m bay just north of Marumbi on the east coast. Four restaurants, a spa and an over-water gym sit behind the beach.
The main restaurant of Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa, a villa property behind the dunes at Paje, with a mother-of-pearl chandelier over the lounge and a menu built on reef fish and the hotel's own vegetable garden.
