Parque das Virtudes
Free·Leashed, off-leash zone on site
A terraced park above the Douro River in one of Porto's oldest neighbourhoods, with viewpoint terraces looking over the rooftops of Ribeira. It has a fully fenced off-leash dog enclosure with a double-gated entrance and a small pool where dogs can cool off in summer.
Why it made the list
Arguably the best-situated dog run in Porto — a fenced off-leash enclosure paired with extraordinary river views.
Good to know before you go
Off-leash play is permitted only inside the fenced enclosure; dogs must be leashed in the rest of the park, per Porto leash rules. The park is open access daily with no published hours.
Practical notes

The closest Atlantic beach to central Porto, a wide sandy stretch about 20 minutes from São Bento by train, backed by the seafood restaurants of Rua Brito Capelo. As a non-concessioned beach it is generally open to dogs year-round, outside the busy bathing season.
A laid-back café on Bonfim's café-friendly avenue, one of the local dog-welcoming spots catalogued by Porto Secreto's pet-friendly list alongside neighbours like The Happy Nest. Relaxed staff and regular local dogs make it an easy coffee stop.
Porto's largest urban park at 83 hectares, stretching from Boavista to the Atlantic coast with lakes, woodland trails, lawns and a café. Dogs are welcome on leash throughout, and the park ends near the Matosinhos coastline for a combined park-and-beach outing.
