Nose Hill Park

FreeLeashed, off-leash zone on site

Nose Hill Park is one of the largest natural environment urban parks in North America, covering about 1,129 hectares of Rough Fescue grassland in northwest Calgary. Roughly a third of the park is designated off-leash, and the paved trail crossing the park is an on-leash zone. From the hilltop you get panoramic views of the city and the Rockies on clear days.

Why it made the list

Huge open grassland trails with a large off-leash share make it a top spot for high-energy dogs that love long, scenic walks.

Good to know before you go

Dogs may be off-leash only within designated areas; the paved regional pathway is on-leash and cyclists use it. Park hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and entry is free per the City of Calgary. Watch for coyotes, especially at dawn and dusk.

Practical notes

  • Use the 14 Street NW entrance for direct access to the off-leash grasslands.
  • Leash up before stepping onto the paved path that bisects the park.

What is available on site
