Bowmont Park

FreeLeashed, off-leash zone on site

Bowmont Park is a 164-hectare natural environment park on the northern bank of the Bow River between Bowness and Montgomery. It has hiking trails, a tufa rock formation and waterfall, and designated off-leash areas mapped by the City of Calgary. River banks and open meadows make it a varied outing for dogs and their people.

Why it made the list

Designated off-leash zones combined with riverside trails give dogs both free-running space and leashed exploring along the Bow.

Good to know before you go

The City of Calgary designates specific off-leash areas within the park; dogs must be leashed elsewhere, including pathways. Park hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and access is free. The off-leash map is published on the city's website.

Practical notes

  • Download the city's Bowmont off-leash map before you go so boundaries are clear.
  • Check out the Waterfall Valley lookout while your dog cools off by the river.

House rules and verification
