Wiggly Field Dog Friendly Area
Free·Off-leash permitted
Wiggly Field is the dog area inside Noethling Park in Lincoln Park, opened in 1997 as the first official off-leash area in Chicago. A small, fenced gravel and asphalt run with a double-gated entry, a separate small-dog and cool-down area, shade trees and a dog-height water fountain.
Why it made the list
The city's original Park District off-leash park, and still a genuine neighbourhood dog scene rather than a patch of dirt behind a fence.
Good to know before you go
Chicago Park District rules apply: a Dog Friendly Area permit and tag, about $10 a year from a participating vet plus a $5 city dog licence, is required, along with current rabies and other vaccinations including bordetella and leptospirosis. Dogs must be leashed entering and leaving, food is banned inside, a maximum of three dogs per person applies, and puppies under four months and females in heat are prohibited.
Practical notes
- Get the DFA tag from a participating vet before your first visit.
- Mid-morning or after 5pm is the friendly regulars' window.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
