Westpark
Free·Leashed only
A 56-hectare landscaped park built for the 1983 garden show, with rose gardens, lakes, lawns and Asian-themed gardens. Per Munich's official dog guidance, dogs are welcome on a leash throughout the entire park, making it the city's most reliably leashed green space.
Why it made the list
Flat, scenic loops around water and gardens, with Munich's strictest leashed-dog rules making it predictable for nervous dogs.
Good to know before you go
Leashes are compulsory for all breeds in the entire Westpark under Munich regulations; off-leash play belongs to Luitpoldpark or designated Hundewiesen instead. There is a large central lawn and lakeside paths, and waste bag dispensers are common at entrances.
Practical notes
Do the full lakeside loop - about 40 minutes at dog-sniffing pace
Use it as the calm alternative if your dog finds the Englischer Garten too rowdy

Munich's oldest continuously running beer garden, on this site since 1812, under around 100 chestnut trees with Augustiner Edelstoff poured from wooden barrels. Leashed dogs are welcome under the trees and on the garden benches, a Munich tradition rather than an exception.
A lakeside Bavarian restaurant and beer garden on the Kleinhesseloher See in the middle of the Englischer Garten, with wooden terraces, a self-service garden side and a full-service restaurant. Leashed dogs are welcome in the beer garden and on the terraces.
A grand historic grand hotel in central Munich with five restaurants, a rooftop bar and a famously dog-welcoming culture, dachshunds included. Dogs are accommodated with prior notice and treated as regular guests in the lobby and bars.
