Virgin Hotels Edinburgh is a five-star hotel in the Old Town, just off the Royal Mile on Victoria Street. Dogs stay free, whatever their size or breed, and are given a locally made tartan dog bed, food and water bowls, a blanket, a towel and treats on arrival in the chamber.

Why it made the list

It is one of very few central Edinburgh hotels that charge nothing for dogs and set no weight or breed limit, and it publishes the whole policy on its own website.

Good to know before you go

The hotel's pet page states: 'Pets stay free, with no size or breed restrictions,' and asks owners to keep dogs on a lead in public spaces. Dogs may dine in the hotel's restaurants or order from a Bonnar's dog menu, and the on-site shop sells leads, collars and bandanas. The pet page publishes no opening hours; address confirmed on the hotel's Find Us page. Confidence high.

Practical notes

  • Mention the dog when booking so the tartan bed and other pet amenities are in the chamber on arrival.
  • The hotel's door opens onto steep, cobbled Victoria Street; the Grassmarket and the Meadows are the nearest straightforward walks.

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
