An 18-room boutique hotel in a converted 1909 Cadbury chocolate warehouse two minutes from Cuba Street, with a dedicated dog-ready room set up with a dog bed, bowls and a treat on arrival, plus an on-site wine bar.
Why it made the list
A purpose-set 'Pooch' room — bed, bowls and a treat, written into the hotel's own room descriptions — in the middle of the city's best walking streets.
Good to know before you go
The hotel's own pages describe the Pooch room; third-party listings record a NZ$50 per pet per night fee, one pet per room, with bowls provided. Rates typically fall in the NZ$100–235 band, above that in peak season. Confirm the fee and availability with the hotel when booking.
Practical notes
Ask specifically for the Pooch room — not all rooms are set up for dogs.
Cuba Street and the waterfront are both an easy leashed walk away.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Last checked: against the source on . Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
Wellington's most popular surf beach, on the airport end of the south coast. The eastern half is a designated off-leash dog exercise area with sand and surf, flat walking, free beachfront parking, poo-bag dispensers and the surf club's facilities nearby.
A specialty-coffee cafe in a converted indoor car park near Cuba Street: high ceilings, exposed brick and an umbrella-shaded parklet outside, pouring Wellington-roasted Flight Coffee with an all-day brunch menu.
The taproom of Parrotdog Brewing, a street back from Lyall Bay beach: retro pub fittings, seventeen revolving taps, a window onto the brewery, a pool table and a Polaroid wall of visiting dogs. The kitchen does upgraded pub grub.
