The Bentway

FreeLeashed only

A linear public space and trail running beneath the Gardiner Expressway, from Fort York towards the waterfront. It mixes paved and wooden decking with planted areas and public art, and dogs are welcome provided they remain on a lead at all times; the route is step-free.

Why it made the list

A shaded, step-free city trail under the expressway that stays usable in rain or heat, welcomes leashed dogs and forms part of the Trans Canada Trail network.

Good to know before you go

The Bentway Conservancy, which runs the site, states in its own event notice that attending dogs must remain leashed at all times. The space is free and outdoors with no fixed opening hours; washroom hours are posted seasonally. The information on dog access is drawn from the venue's own website and is reliable, though there is no published general dog policy.

Practical notes

  • Free entry, but paid Green P parking is on Fort York Blvd; the 511 Bathurst and 509 Harbourfront streetcars stop nearby.
  • The site sits in the open beneath the expressway, so it is useable in light rain, but there is little grass — bring bags and water.

What is available on site

  • Shaded seating
  • Step-free access

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
