Stone Arch Bridge

FreeLeashed only

A historic 1893 railroad bridge across the Mississippi River, now a 2,100-foot pedestrian and cycling crossing managed by the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board. It links Mill Ruins Park with Father Hennepin Bluff Park and offers iconic river and St. Anthony Falls views. Dogs on leash are welcome throughout the park system trail.

Why it made the list

It's a flat, traffic-free, scenic leashed walk with big river views, ideal for an urban dog stroll before or after a patio meal nearby.

Good to know before you go

The Minneapolis Park Board allows dogs in its parks but requires them to be individually leashed except inside designated off-leash areas (Ordinance PB2-18). Park hours are posted by the Park Board as 6 am-midnight; source: minneapolisparks.org.

Practical notes

  • Go early morning or sunset for cooler pavement and the best light over the falls.
  • The bridge is busy with cyclists and pedestrians, so keep your leash short on the narrow deck.
