Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park

$ · BudgetOff-leash permitted

A more-than-6-acre off-leash dog area inside Minnehaha Regional Park, managed by the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board. The partially fenced space sits on the south side of the park near the Mississippi River gorge, with trail markers showing where National Park Service land begins. It is one of nine off-leash recreation areas operated by the Park Board.

Why it made the list

It is one of the largest dog spaces in the city, right next to Minnehaha Falls, so dogs get a big off-leash run plus scenic leashed walks on the same trip.

Good to know before you go

A Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board Off-Leash Dog Park permit is required for every dog (annual permit $38 first dog for residents, $66 for non-residents; $5 daily permit per dog). Off-leash areas are open during regular park hours of 6 am-10 pm, max three dogs per handler, and dogs must be leashed everywhere else in the park. Source: minneapolisparks.org dog park pages.

Practical notes

  • Buy the off-leash permit online before your first visit; daily permits are $5 per dog.
  • The NPS enforces a national leash law on adjacent river land, so keep your dog leashed at boundary trail markers.
