Steele Indian School Park Dog Park

FreeOff-leash permitted

The City of Phoenix's flagship central dog park, set in a 72-acre historic park with about 1.6 acres of maintained grass split into separate large- and small-dog areas. ADA-accessible double-gated entrances, drinking fountains, benches, mutt-mitt dispensers, and mature shade trees serve visitors.

Why it made the list

Grass and real shade are rare commodities in the desert, and this park delivers both plus chilled drinking fountains for Phoenix summers.

Good to know before you go

Open daily 6 a.m.–10 p.m. except during large park events, per Phoenix Parks and Recreation. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated, and leashed outside the fenced runs per city ordinance. Call 602-495-0739 for rain-closure or maintenance updates.

Practical notes

  • Summer visits: go before 8 a.m. — pavement and turf get dangerously hot.
  • Check for special-event closures; parking tightens when the park hosts events.
