Parks · Dublin 2, city centre off Grafton Street
St Stephen's Green
Free·Leashed only
St Stephen's Green is a nine-hectare Victorian public park in the centre of Dublin, opened to the public in 1880 and maintained by the Office of Public Works. It has over 3.5 kilometres of accessible paths, an ornamental lake, a waterfall and a popular playground.
Why it made the list
A free, central, all-day park that formally permits dogs on the lead, handy for a city-centre walk between Grafton Street, Trinity College and the museums.
Good to know before you go
Heritage Ireland (the Office of Public Works) lists 'Dogs on lead' as the restriction and states dogs are not allowed in the playground or around the lake and fountains. Opening times are Monday to Saturday from 07:30 and Sundays and bank holidays from 09:30, with Christmas Day 09:30-12:30 and closing at dusk. Facts taken from the OPW's official page for the park.
Practical notes
- Leads are required throughout and dogs are barred from the lake and fountains, so keep to the paths and the central lawns.
- Sundays and bank holidays open later at 09:30 and the park closes at dusk, so check seasonal closing times before an evening visit.
What is available on site
- Shaded seating
- Step-free access
House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
