South Pointe Park

FreeOff-leash permitted

A waterfront park at the southern tip of Miami Beach with ocean and Fisher Island views, a promenade, pier, and a designated dog area southwest of the Washington Avenue entry plaza. Dogs may go unrestrained in that designated zone during set hours under the city's animal ordinance.

Why it made the list

Watch cruise ships slide past Government Cut while your dog plays in Miami Beach's only ordinance-backed off-leash window.

Good to know before you go

Miami Beach's official code (Sec. 10-11) allows dogs to be unrestrained in 'South Pointe Park, in the designated area south and west of the Washington Avenue entry plaza, from sunrise to 10:00 a.m. daily, or from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.' Elsewhere in the park dogs must be leashed, and violations start at a $250 fine; dogs are not allowed on the beach.

Practical notes

  • Arrive before 9am for legal off-leash play and cooler sand
  • Leash up everywhere outside the designated zone — fines start at $250
