Parco Sempione

FreeLeashed, off-leash zone on site

Parco Sempione is a 386,000 square metre English-style public garden in central Milan, laid out in 1893 between the Castello Sforzesco and the Arco della Pace. It has tree-lined avenues, a fenced lake with an iron bridge, lawns, and several museums and monuments in the heart of the city.

Why it made the list

Milan's central park offers free access for most of the day, four fenced dog areas where dogs may run off-leash, and flat shaded paths linking the castle to the Arco della Pace.

Good to know before you go

The City of Milan's official page lists four dog areas (aree cani) and free access, with opening hours of 06:00 to 24:00 from April to September and 06:00 to 22:00 from October to March. Dogs may run off-leash only inside the marked aree cani; elsewhere in Milan they must be kept on a lead. Facts taken from the Comune di Milano park page.

Practical notes

  • Use the four fenced dog areas (aree cani) for off-leash time; on the main avenues and lawns dogs must stay on a lead.
  • The park closes at 22:00 from October to March, two hours earlier than in summer, so check the season before an evening walk.

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
