Lakes & swim · Segrate, eastern edge of Milan
Idroscalo (Parco Idroscalo)
Free·Leashed, off-leash zone on site
The Idroscalo is a large public park and lake about 8 kilometres from central Milan, built around an artificial basin used for rowing, sailing, canoeing and open-water events. It has extensive grass banks, a dedicated dog area, the national water-rescue dog school and a busy calendar of sports events.
Why it made the list
Milan's nearest open-water park, where a dog can walk on the lead along the lake, run free in a 2,800 square metre dog area and swim in a stretch of water set aside for dogs.
Good to know before you go
The park's official site states that dogs may enjoy long walks on the lead or run free in dedicated areas of 2,800 square metres, and that there is water where dogs can swim; the national water-rescue dog school is based here. The page does not publish opening hours, and a lead, with a muzzle carried, applies elsewhere in the park. Facts taken from the Idroscalo 'Amici a 4 zampe' page.
Practical notes
- The dog area is the place to let your dog swim and dry off; elsewhere in the park Italian rules require a lead, with a muzzle carried.
- The Idroscalo hosts large sporting events, so check the events calendar before a weekend visit if you want a quiet walk.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
