Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary

$ · BudgetLeashed only

A 600-hectare indigenous forest sanctuary south-west of the centre, with 3 km and 5 km walking loops, a lily dam, cycling tracks and a healthy bird population. It is run by the Ngong Road Forest Association with the Kenya Forest Service.

Why it made the list

Quieter and far less polished than Karura, with broad forest roads where a dog can trot beside you for an hour without constant bike traffic.

Good to know before you go

The sanctuary's own site publishes fees, gates and visitor notices but no dog rule; dogs are walked on the marked loops on a lead and owners are expected to carry bags out. Entry is about Ksh 100 for citizens and Ksh 300 for visitors, and routes longer than 5 km require a ranger escort. Source: ngongroadforest.com visitor notice and price list.

Practical notes

  • Use the Nairobi Chapel exit while Cemetery Road works run
