Giardini Indro Montanelli

FreeLeashed, off-leash zone on site

The Giardini Indro Montanelli are Milan's oldest public park, first laid out in 1794 near Porta Venezia and later redesigned as an English landscape with a lake, artificial rocks and a waterfall. The Natural History Museum and the Planetarium stand inside the gardens, a short walk from the shopping streets of Porta Venezia.

Why it made the list

A central, free historic garden with two dog areas, one of them fenced, and long shaded paths close to the museums of Porta Venezia, easy to combine with a city walk.

Good to know before you go

The City of Milan's official page states there are two dog areas, one fenced, and lists opening hours of 06:00 to 24:00 from April to September and 06:00 to 22:00 from October to March, with free access and entrances on Via Palestro and Corso Venezia. Dogs are off-leash only inside the marked aree cani. Facts taken from the Comune di Milano park page.

Practical notes

  • Use the fenced dog area for off-leash play; keep dogs on the lead around the lake and near the museum entrances.
  • The gardens close at 22:00 in autumn and winter and get busy at weekends around the Natural History Museum, so mornings are calmer.

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
