Lakes & swim · Mission Bay
Fiesta Island Dog Park
Free·Off-leash permitted
Roughly ninety fenced, off-leash acres on a peninsula in Mission Bay, ringed by calm, waveless shoreline where dogs wade and swim. It is one of only two places in San Diego where dogs may legally be off-leash on the water's edge.
Why it made the list
Huge open space plus sheltered, flat water makes this the best place in the city for a dog to actually swim rather than paddle.
Good to know before you go
Dogs may be off-leash under voice control and owners must clean up. Overnight camping is not allowed. There are no drinking fountains and no restrooms inside, so bring water. Some wildlife nesting areas close to dogs between mid-April and mid-September. The site is listed by the San Diego Tourism Authority among the city's dog recreation areas.
Practical notes
- Go on a weekday morning — summer weekend parking fills fast.
- Avoid low tide, when the flats get mucky, and rinse the dog afterwards.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
