A sandy strip of Elbe river beach below the Ovelgonne museum-ships and historic pilot houses, one of Hamburg's favorite dog beaches. Dogs run the sand and swim in the Elbe here, with views of container ships passing alarmingly close.

Per Hamburg Tourismus, dogs are welcome on the Elbe beaches but must be kept on a leash, with a designated off-leash dog area further along the shore toward Blankenese (Falkensteiner Ufer). Access is free and open at all hours; swimming is at your own risk and Elbe currents and ship traffic make caution essential.
