Discovery Park Loop Trail

FreeLeashed only

The 2.8-mile Loop Trail is a designated National Recreation Trail inside 534-acre Discovery Park, Seattle's largest. It climbs gently through forest and open meadow to bluff-top views over Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

Why it made the list

A National Recreation Trail inside the city with sound and mountain views, gentle grades and a surface that suits a dog all year round.

Good to know before you go

Leashed dogs are allowed on the Loop Trail; Seattle's parks code requires a leash everywhere except official off-leash areas. Discovery Park also has its own off-leash area in the northeast section. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. The park is open daily with seasonally varying hours. Details come from Seattle Parks and Recreation.

Practical notes

  • Use the North or South car park to shorten or extend the loop.
  • Do not take the beach descent — dogs are banned there.

What is available on site

  • Shaded seating
  • Step-free access

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
