City Park
Free·Leashed only
A 60-hectare public park in Parklands, gazetted in the 1920s, with indigenous forest, open lawns, a maze, Commonwealth war graves and the Murumbi Memorial Garden. It is one of the oldest green spaces in the city.
Why it made the list
Free, shaded and central, with enough trail network for a proper hour-long walk instead of a pavement loop.
Good to know before you go
Nairobi City County lists City Park as a free public park, but no park-specific dog notice is posted at the gate. The county's public open spaces bill states that an animal brought into a county park must be kept on a leash and its droppings removed, so treat leash-and-scoop as the rule and follow ranger instructions. The resident Sykes' monkeys are bold - do not let the dog chase them. Source: nairobi.go.ke Explore Nairobi park listing and the Nairobi City County public open spaces bill, 2021.

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Last checked: against the source on . Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
A 1,000-hectare protected urban forest with more than 50 km of marked trails, a 15-metre waterfall, the Mau Mau caves and Lily Lake. It is managed by the Kenya Forest Service with Friends of Karura Forest, who run security, signage and the visitor gates.
An all-day alfresco restaurant on a wide wooden deck inside Karura Forest, with forest views, an all-day breakfast and a short continental menu. It is the standard post-walk stop for Nairobi dog owners.
A farm-to-table cafe, farm shop and garden centre on a two-acre plot beside the University of Nairobi agricultural farm. Wood-fired pizza, a long wine list and a Saturday farmers' market make it a family weekend fixture.
