Canine Court & Van Cortlandt Park
Free·Off-leash permitted
A spacious fenced dog run inside Van Cortlandt Park featuring a canine agility playground with teeter-totters, hurdles, tunnels and a hanging tire for puppies. The surrounding park also offers hiking trails where leashed dogs are welcome.
Why it made the list
One of NYC's few dog runs with built-in agility equipment, set in the Bronx's largest park.
Good to know before you go
The fenced Canine Court allows off-leash play during park hours (sunrise to 1am per NYC Parks); everywhere else in the park dogs must be leashed on the 6-foot-max NYC leash. Van Cortlandt's trails are leashed-dog friendly.
Practical notes
Bring water — shade is limited in parts of the run
Try the agility equipment early before crowds arrive

New York's first Department of Health–approved dog café, split into a coffee side and a separate Dog Dining Room entered straight from Avenue A. In the Dog Dining Room dogs come off the leash under owner supervision, which is close to unheard of indoors in Manhattan.
A taproom on the water at Domino Park, where the East River and the Manhattan skyline do the decorating. Leashed dogs are welcome inside the room and out on the patio, and food comes from outside — Roberta's is next door.
A Midtown hotel with an unusually open pet policy: no fee, no deposit, no weight cap and no limit on how many pets come with you. Bowls go to the room, beds come on request, and the concierge keeps a list of nearby dog-friendly parks and restaurants.
