Cafés · East Village
Boris & Horton
$$ · Moderate·Off-leash permitted
New York's first Department of Health–approved dog café, split into a coffee side and a separate Dog Dining Room entered straight from Avenue A. In the Dog Dining Room dogs come off the leash under owner supervision, which is close to unheard of indoors in Manhattan.
Why it made the list
It is the only indoor space in the city where an off-leash dog is expressly allowed rather than quietly tolerated.
Good to know before you go
The Dog Dining Room carries a $5 daily fee, waived for guests staying on the café side and for members. Dogs must be vaccinated, and dogs in heat or aggressive dogs are turned away. Opening hours come from public listings rather than the venue's own site, so treat them as approximate.
Practical notes
- If you only want coffee, sit on the café side and skip the fee.
- House rules are posted at the door — read them before unclipping.

House rules and verification
The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
