Bruce Pit Off-Leash Dog Area

FreeOff-leash permitted

Ottawa's best-known off-leash area, a former sand and gravel pit inside the Greenbelt: open grassy basins ringed by forest paths with a roughly 3km loop, benches and shared water bowls. Rain makes it muddy.

Why it made the list

A huge, genuinely off-leash landscape inside the city — the standard by which Ottawa dog owners measure everywhere else.

Good to know before you go

The site is Greenbelt land managed by the National Capital Commission, listed among the region's designated off-leash dog areas; dogs must be under control and cleaned up after, and there is no fee. The City of Ottawa's dog-park page sets the general rules framework. Wear boots after rain.

Practical notes

  • Boots in wet weather — the pit holds water.
  • Bring your own water in summer; the bowls depend on volunteers.

House rules and verification
