El Rosedal

FreeLeashed only

A 3.4-hectare rose garden inside the Bosques, with more than 18,000 roses, a Greek bridge over its lake, an Andalusian patio gifted by Seville and a garden of busts honouring poets. It was given the World Federation of Rose Societies' Garden Excellence award in 2012.

Why it made the list

The prettiest short loop in Palermo and the easiest place to combine a dog walk with the classic Buenos Aires photo.

Good to know before you go

Layout, the 18,000 roses, the bridge, the Andalusian patio and the Garden Excellence award all come from the city tourism site's Rosedal page, which also states the garden sits inside the free-access area of the park. No pet rule is published; the city-wide lead and waste rules apply. Roses and lawns are planted beds, so keep the dog on the paths. Confidence: medium.

Practical notes

  • October is peak bloom; by January the beds are past their best.
  • Go at opening time - it is the most photographed spot in Palermo by mid-morning.
