West Terrace Dog Park
$ · Budget·Off-leash permitted
A members-only, fully enclosed 1.5-acre off-leash dog park on a downtown bluff overlooking the West Bottoms and Missouri River, run by KC Parks & Recreation. It has controlled key-fob entry, a shade pavilion with picnic tables, disposal bags, and two drinking fountains. Membership verifies every dog's rabies vaccination.
Why it made the list
The vaccination-checked membership and controlled entry mean only current-on-shots dogs are inside - a safer bet for social or small dogs than open public parks.
Good to know before you go
Membership is $50/year for new members and $40 for renewals (any county of residence), applied online with rabies records; the park is open daily 5 am-10 pm, closes for maintenance Thursdays 8-11 am and for aeration weeks in spring and fall. Source: kcparks.org.
Practical notes
Apply online ahead of your visit - activation takes up to two business days.
It closes about four weeks each September and April for aeration and seeding.
