Trout Lake Beach

FreeLeashed, off-leash zone on site

A freshwater beach at the south end of Trout Lake in John Hendry Park, with an off-leash dog area at the north end of the lake. The surrounding park has play fields, a picnic area and a concession, and the water quality has been under review, so swimming is not permitted for people.

Why it made the list

A free lakeside spot in East Vancouver where dogs get a dedicated off-leash area and their owners get a flat, shaded walk around the lake.

Good to know before you go

The City of Vancouver's Trout Lake Beach page confirms the site and states that the north end of the lake is a dog off-leash area; elsewhere in John Hendry Park, dogs must be leashed. The page publishes no opening hours, and access is unrestricted. Swimming is not permitted because no lifeguard is on duty and water quality is being studied, so keep dogs out of the lake.

Practical notes

  • The off-leash area sits at the north end of the lake, away from the beach and the sports fields where dogs are not allowed.
  • Trout Lake is a short walk from Commercial Drive, and weekends plus the summer farmers' market make the park busiest, so visit early.

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
