Swope Park Off Leash Dog Park
Free·Off-leash permitted
A five-acre free off-leash dog park inside Swope Park, the largest park in the Kansas City system, operated by KC Parks & Recreation. Opened in 2012, it is divided into a one-acre fenced area for dogs under 30 pounds (and elderly or handicapped dogs) and four acres for large dogs. Both areas have dog and people water fountains.
Why it made the list
Five free acres split by dog size, with water fountains, inside one of the Midwest's largest city parks makes this the best free dog play space in Kansas City.
Good to know before you go
KC Parks rules apply: dogs must be licensed, vaccinated, not in heat, and leashed outside the fenced area; no children 8 and under in the off-leash area; maximum four dogs per adult handler; no prong, choke, or spike collars. The park is free with no membership required. Source: kcparks.org.
Practical notes
Small dogs get their own one-acre fenced section, so keep your pup on the right side of the divider.
Remove prong, choke, and spike collars before entering - they are banned by park rules.
