Sandgate Foreshore Dog Off-Leash Area
Free·Off-leash permitted
One of Brisbane City Council's three foreshore dog off-leash areas on Moreton Bay, at the Shorncliffe end of the bay: sand and shallows for swimming, foreshore paths, parking and the pier a short walk away.
Why it made the list
Beach and bay water dogs can legally run free in — one of only three foreshore areas the council designates, and the closest to a true dog beach Brisbane has.
Good to know before you go
The council lists this foreshore stretch as an off-leash dog area subject to shorebird-protection rules: off-leash applies within the designated zone only, dogs must stay clear of bird roosting flocks, and signs and maps at the entrances govern on the day. Council rules require control, a carried lead and clean-up. There is no entry fee.
Practical notes
Go at low tide — the shallows are the point.
Read the signage at the entrance — the designated zone boundary is marked on-site.
