Parc Jean-Drapeau

FreeLeashed only

A large island park in the Saint Lawrence, made up of Île Sainte-Hélène and Île Notre-Dame, with trails, gardens and river views. Dogs are allowed in the green spaces and on the trails provided they stay on a lead; they are not permitted at Jean-Doré Beach or the Aquatic Complex.

Why it made the list

A free island park with kilometres of leashed trails a short metro ride from downtown Montreal, but with clear dog-free zones around the beach and pools.

Good to know before you go

The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau, which operates the park, states on its own site that dogs are allowed in green spaces and on trails at all times on a lead, but are barred from Jean-Doré Beach, the Aquatic Complex, the Athletes' Quarters and rental halls. There are no published park opening hours, and the park is free to enter. Confidence is high because the rule comes from the operator's own FAQ.

Practical notes

  • Reach the park by metro to Jean-Drapeau station; arriving by car means using the paid island car parks.
  • Dogs must sit out the beach and pools, so plan a shaded trail walk on Île Sainte-Hélène instead.

What is available on site

  • Water bowls
  • Shaded seating
  • Step-free access

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
