New Brighton Park

FreeLeashed, off-leash zone on site

A waterfront park in East Vancouver with a fenced off-leash area and a beach that is open to off-lead dogs out of season. The rest of the park, which looks across the water towards the North Shore mountains, is on-lead, and there is a separate fenced run of about 7,000 square metres.

Why it made the list

A rare Vancouver combination: a fenced off-leash run plus a seasonal off-leash beach, all free to use and right beside the water in East Vancouver.

Good to know before you go

The City of Vancouver's dog off-leash page lists New Brighton Park with its address, an off-lead fenced area of about 7,000 square metres open 5am–10pm, and a beach area that is off-lead only from October to April. Dogs elsewhere in the park must be leashed under the Animal Control Bylaw. Beach use is seasonal, so check signage before letting a dog swim.

Practical notes

  • The beach off-leash zone closes to dogs between May and September, so plan summer visits around the fenced grass run instead.
  • Street parking is limited near the park entrance; early mornings are quietest and best for off-lead exercise.

House rules and verification

The pet policy above is summarised from the venue’s own published information and cross-checked against public listings. Policies change without notice anyway, so confirm the current one with the venue before you travel, and keep your dog leashed anywhere that is not a signed off-leash area. Read the full disclaimer.
