Nanzenji Temple Precinct

FreeLeashed only

A historic temple complex famous for autumn foliage and its massive Sanmon gate and brick Suirokaku aqueduct, with broad grounds good for walking. The Kyoto tourism association names the precinct as a sightseeing spot dogs can enjoy.

Why it made the list

One of Kyoto's most iconic sights you can actually explore on a leash, with wide paths and a photogenic aqueduct walk.

Good to know before you go

Per the Kyoto City Tourism Association FAQ, dogs are welcome in the precinct on a leash with proper manners; individual sub-temple buildings may restrict entry. Opening hours are not published for the open precinct on the source page.

Practical notes
