Maruyama Park
Free·Leashed only
Sapporo's most beloved neighborhood park at the foot of Mount Maruyama, with big lawns, tree-lined paths and the Hokkaido Shrine within walking distance. It is a daily meeting point for the city's dog walkers.
Why it made the list
A central, free green space that connects directly to real forest trails on Mount Maruyama for longer leashed hikes.
Good to know before you go
Dogs must be leashed throughout the park and Hokkaido Shrine grounds, and waste must be carried out; Japan's rabies vaccination requirement applies to resident dogs. No published hours for the open park space.
Practical notes
Start early for quiet shrine-forest trails
