Katy Trail
Free·Leashed only
A 5.5-mile paved rail-trail built on an old MKT railroad line, running through Uptown and Oak Lawn with tree cover, benches, and water fountains along the way. It is Dallas's most popular running and dog-walking path, passing patios and cafes in Uptown.
Why it made the list
Shaded, well-maintained, and connected to dog-friendly patios, it is the default daily walk for thousands of Dallas dogs.
Good to know before you go
Dogs are welcome on the trail on a leash per Katy Trail rules enforced by the Friends of the Katy Trail and the City of Dallas leash ordinance. Trail hours are dawn to 11 p.m. per the city. Water fountains appear at intervals; carry bags and clean up. Hours were not published in the material reviewed.
Practical notes
Uptown entrances connect to dog-friendly patios for a break.
Go early in summer — the trail gets hot and crowded by mid-morning.
