Casa de Campo
Free·Leashed, off-leash zone on site
At over 1,700 hectares, Casa de Campo is Madrid's largest green space, a former royal hunting estate with pine forest, dirt trails, meadows and a lake. Metro Line 5 and 10 run directly to its entrances, making it easy to reach with a dog.
Why it made the list
Virtually limitless space for long hikes and sniffing, five times the size of Central Park, with terrain for every energy level.
Good to know before you go
Dogs are welcome throughout on leash, and off-leash is tolerated in quieter areas during the city's permitted off-leash hours (until 10:00 and after 19:00/20:00). Keep dogs out of the lake and away from livestock areas, and note the cable car (Teleferico) only accepts dogs in carriers.
Practical notes
Take the cable car over and walk back through the forest trails
Bring water in summer; much of the park has little shade on the open hills
